Akshaya Patra’s latest kitchens in India

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an NGO in India providing mid-day meals to school children studying in Government schools and Government-aided schools across the country. It is one of the oldest NGOs implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in partnership with the Government of India and various State Governments. With the vision ‘No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger’, Akshaya Patra has been sustainably and steadily expanding its reach to various parts of the country since its inception in 2000.

Kitchens of Akshaya Patra

Being in the mid-day meal sector, Akshaya Patra has its own kitchens to prepare the food that is served to the children. Akshaya Patra has both centralised kitchens and decentralised kitchens to cater to urban/semi-urban areas and rural areas respectively. Centralised kitchens are huge cooking units with the capacity tocook up to 1 lakh meals per day whereas decentralised kitchens are smaller units operated by women self-help groups under the supervision of Akshaya Patra’s quality and process supervisors.  

Along with kitchens, this mid-day meal NGO in India also has its own self-managed logistics to deliver cooked meals to schools. Akshaya Patra’s fleet of food delivery vehicles are customised to retain freshness and temperature of the cooked meals and avoid spillage of food. The vehicles are GPS-enabled to ensure safety, punctuality, and orderliness in delivering mid-day meals to children.

Recent expansions of Akshaya Patra
